Sev Fasasi (they/them) is a Philadelphia based filmmaker working primarily in the camera department. Their goal is to reframe traditional narratives in cinema by capturing marginalized identities in all of their depth and beauty, utilizing documentary or narrative genres.
Sev made their first documentary as a teenager to give voice to queer youth in Philly high schools. That was the first time they experienced the power and responsibility that comes with stepping behind a camera. It’s inspired their desire to diversify the screen since.
Since then, Sev has shot three short films and produced two community centered documentaries about local nonprofits. Currently, they are working as a media apprentice with Emmy award-winning production company Big Picture Alliance. In the past, they’ve gained experience in assistant editing, casting, and developing reality television through ITV America shows like Love Island or Bargain Block.
Recent highlights include cinematography for experimental horror short ‘Nahte’ and a horror comedy short titled ‘The Uncle.’ Now, Sev seeks opportunities to continue crafting emotionally resonant visuals through genre films, reflecting on identity via documentary, or projects that combine the two.
